About Me

"Week after week, I sit in an endless string of traffic. No matter how many times I’m honked at or cut off as cars make a mad dash for the exits, it’s not about the journey. For me, this drive is about the destination, the San Mateo Daily Journal to be exact. Sitting at my desk, editing letters to the editor, inputting calendar events, and pitching my column ideas to the editor-in-chief, I forget all about the road ragers and focus on what I love to do."

This was the beginning of an essay that I credit for my acceptance to UC Berkeley. And, though my perspective on journalism has changed in the past four years, in that time, my commitment to the craft has never wavered. Before I even turned my tassel in front of our COVID-era graduation livestream, I applied to The Daily Californian and began work as a news reporter. By my second semester in college, I became the first freshman assistant news editor in recent history. But I didn't stop there. Given the opportunity to explore, I taught myself data journalism and audio journalism and applied to be a project developer, producing award-winning pieces and teaching the other developers how to report.

I have since expanded my reach beyond Berkeley, as an intern for the San Francisco Examiner and The Hill, in Washington, D.C. I also spend time in San Quentin State Prison, working with incarcerated staff members of San Quentin News and looking to implement newsrooms in other prisons so they can once again exercise their first amendment rights. Now, determined to emerge into the field, I am hoping to report on criminal justice, education, or reproductive justice issues.
